Bonnie Trainor Lucio, LOTR, CHT
Bonnie currently works at Lakeview Regional Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center in Covington, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana State Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. She is a charter, active member of ASHT, the founding president of the Louisiana Chapter of ASHT and continued as an officer of the chapter until 2007.
Her passion for hand therapy began while volunteering at a local hospital where she saw her first hand therapy patient struggle to regain function in his dominant hand following a traumatic offshore injury. As a new graduate, she knew she wanted to pursue hand therapy and began attending surgeries and treating orthopedic patients. Her growing passion for exclusively treating upper extremity patients led her to a position to work for Dr. Harold Stokes, a gifted hand surgeon and great mentor, who continually challenged her to learn more about rehabilitating hand patients. She became the director of The Hand Center of Louisiana and supervised therapists at three clinics in the metropolitan New Orleans area.
In 1993, she and business partner, Keri Landrieu opened The Hand Rehabilitation Center, Inc, an outpatient therapist owned facility which eventually grew to five locations. She was the hand therapy fellowship coordinator at The Hand Rehabilitation Center and mentored many post graduate therapists who desired additional training in upper extremity rehabilitation. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina forced her and her partner to close their clinics.
Bonnie is a published author in The Journal of Hand Therapy on Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tears of the Wrist and has given numerous national and local presentations to students and colleagues. She has been active in HTCC since 2002 and has served on the following committees: Item Writer, Task Force Analysis, Item Writer Mentor, and Recertification. She is currently the Recertification Committee Vice Chair and on the Board of Directors.
