JoAnn
Keller Green, OT, CHT
JoAnn is the Director of Therapy for Northwest Hand Specialists,
group of physicians and therapists providing excellence in comprehensive
care for the upper extremity in three locations north of Seattle,
Washington.
JoAnn is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis.
A native of Minnesota, she worked in Colorado, Kentucky, and
Alaska prior to settling in Washington in 2004. JoAnn obtained
her hand therapy certification in 2001. While in Kentucky,
she received recognition for her role in a successful bid
for state Occupational Therapy licensure changes in Kentucky
in 2002. She was also a member of the Hand Transplant Team
for second U.S. hand transplant patient in 2002.
JoAnn was drawn immediately to hand therapy when she worked
in an occupational therapy program while she was an occupational
therapy student. She had the opportunity to make a splint
under supervision for a patient, who reported improvement
in his symptoms at his very next visit! This experience sparked
her interest in the process of caring for patients as a hand
therapist – evaluating clinical problems, creatively
designing a treatment program or splint to help heal injured
tissues, and providing education for the person in how to
care for an injury. She enjoys spending time with her patients
helping them to return to their regular activities following
an upper extremity injury.
She also enjoys working with other therapists. She has taught
continuing education courses and enjoys giving back to the
hand therapy profession through her roles with HTCC and ASHT.
She was involved with HTCC on a passing score study in 2002,
and has served on the Recertification committee since 2003.
She became committee chair in 2007 and joined the Board of
Directors the same year.
Outside of hand therapy, JoAnn enjoys travel, horseback riding,
hiking, and skiing.
