Mary P. Dimick, OTR, CHT
Treasurer
Mary
Dimick is Vice President of Operations for US Physical Therapy,
Inc. headquartered in Houston, Texas. She oversees the strategic
operations of over 70 outpatient hand therapy and physical
therapy private practices in the Southeastern United States.
Mary’s interest in rehabilitation has its roots in
her passion for hand therapy and her twenty years of clinical
and management experience with hand therapy programs at the
University of California, San Diego Medical Center. What began
for Mary as a chance to make a difference for patients with
complex multiple trauma injuries evolved into an exciting
two decades of opportunities to try innovative new techniques
and products, and research advances in the field of hand rehabilitation.
Always a visionary leader in healthcare, Mary developed and
managed the first hand rehabilitation center in the University
of California healthcare system in San Diego, in 1981. Mary
credits the mentoring relationship she had with Dr. Richard
Gelberman, then chief of the hand surgery service, as being
the driving force behind her passion and commitment to hand
therapy. Together they researched and published many of the
classic works on peripheral nerve sensibility.
Mary’s visionary leadership has also helped to shape
the profession of hand therapy. Mary served in a leadership
role for the American Society of Hand Therapists 1982-1992
and, as chair of the Task Force on Legal Issues, which eventually
became the Certification Committee, had the vision to help
lead the association toward certification. When Mary left
her board position on the ASHT board, it was to serve as Treasurer
of the newly formed Hand Therapy Certification Commission.
Mary has served as Treasurer for HTCC since the beginning.
She has helped to keep HTCC financial viable through the early
years with staggering developmental costs to a sound financial
base for the commission’s future growth. Mary also serves
as a member of the Practice Analysis Task Force, the International
Standards Task Force, and the Audit Committee.
